Financial Aid & Scholarships

Financial Aid

Student grants and/or loans are available to interested and qualified individuals.  Contact the Office of Financial Assistance at (512)505-3031 for information.  The first step is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  The FAFSA is used to determine eligibility for most state and federal financial aid programs.  Huston-Tillotson University will also use data from the FAFSA to determine eligibility for institutional scholarships as well as for federal and state aid programs.  Each student is encouraged to apply early to maximize eligibility for financial aid.   Prospective students must be accepted into HT ATCP before financial aid can be finalized.  Students should not wait for formal acceptance to apply for financial aid.  Students should apply early for both financial aid and admission.  To ensure priority consideration for financial aid, students are encouraged to complete the FAFSA, and Institutional Scholarship application by March 15th of each year.  Files completed after that date will be processed and awarded based on available funds.

The Stafford Loan Program has a loan cancellation provision for teachers at certain campuses or in specified subject areas, so be sure to ask about the Stafford Loan Program.  For more information about the Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program, see http://www.tea.state.tx.us/edex/loanforgive.html.

Scholarships

Scholarship money is available when the participant has attained employment with an accredited school.   Please be aware however, that participants do not qualify for both financial aid and scholarship money after Phase 1, Pre-Assignment Training.  At that point, the participant must choose to accept the financial aid or the scholarship money.  S/he must also be in good standing with the program as well as performing satisfactorily in the internship.

Matching Church Scholarships:  The University established the matching church program to honor a commitment to its founders and continued religious affiliation. This is a dollar-for-dollar match with a maximum annual award from the University of $5,000. The matching award will not be allocated until we have received a letter and award from the church and the letter should mention the matching church scholarship program.  These awards will be made upon the approval of the financial aid director based on the availability of funds.  Please confirm in writing with the scholarship coordinator whether or not this program is being offered each academic year.
